Fragments of Landscape

Fragments of Landscape

"Since moving to the bush in 2001 the sense of being in the landscape has became a strong theme in my work. It was not until I began to think about 'Fragments of Landscape' the exhibition, that I realised how much landscape detail had emerged in my work. Landscape had always been something in the background in which the action took place. 'Small Rabbits' for example, is a walk around the property. As your eye wanders around the picture, small details are recorded – insects, flowers, the blackberry, a rabbit dashing across the horizon. I have included the words of self chatter and close around the figures are the things belonging to our every day lives - the car, the clothes line, the phone and so on. It is the place in which we live and in this sense I have tried to make the symbols universal. To me this is not only a picture of the landscape but a depiction of the sense of being in the landscape.

Kareen Anchen - Orchards

Kareen Anchen - Orchards

Inspired by the many moods of the fruit trees in the back yard, Kareen has been working on a series of etchings from subjects around the Orchard. These etchings represent the seeds of a larger body of work. Kareen studied painting at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology graduating in 1984. She completed an Honours year in 1991 and is a qualified Art teacher. Drawing is a vital part of Kareen’s repertoire and her love of mark making is particularly suited to Printmaking.
